visions

Starting with my very first website on Geocities in 1997 and coming to Magickalmoon.com and Magickalmoon.net from 1999 until now..

I wondered what all the fuss was about. What was the Internet really?

I was in the middle of an Information Technology Certificate and there was an Internet Module. I had only discovered computers in early 1997 when I completed a Return to the Workforce course for Women. One of the tasks in our course was to design our own webpage. I failed miserably!!

But when I got online in the comfort of my own home I was in my element. I started with surfing about, spending many nights chatting and reading and then I saw a link on the bottom of a webpage..
"Get a free homepage"

I quickly became hooked. I got my free homepage and set about merrily, typing away until I had one long homepage that was around 50k in size. Covered in graphics from everywhere I could find them and taking on average, a week to load!!

I started looking at Art sites and wondered if I could make some of those beautiful images that I had seen. I downloaded a free copy of Paint Shop Pro and taught myself how to use it and soon after I was making graphics and putting them on my site for free download. Someone sent me an email one day and asked if I could make them a website. And it has escalated from there. A hobby has now become an obsession..

I started using Photoshop in 1998 and this has become my "Weapon of Choice". I have been using Poser and Bryce since 1999 and have also been learning 3d Modelling.

At present I am learning PHP and the new version of this site is just that. My sites reflect what I have learned, and in the past they have gone from a plain text page, to frames, to all sorts of effects and now this is the final product, for a while anyway.

I have been involved in a lot of Oscommerce customisations. The default theme is very generic and quite ugly, so I like to try and make it look as un-Oscommerce as possible. I don't like seeing several sites all looking the same, and I hope my visitors don't either.

I had hoped to be taking up a full time Web Programming course sometime in 2002 and possibly a Graphic Design course, but finances and lack of time has put that on the backburner for now. I would like to be able to call myself "qualified" one day, so it's still on my list. My dream job is to work for a Design company and do this full time, but I love making webpages and this is good enough for now..

If you like what you have seen so far, please read on or check my portfolio page to see some of the webpages that I have designed to date... (the very first page is not listed there!)
